Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about working with SoundScore — organized for clarity.

Recording

Questions about commissioning your score as a professional recording.

How long does recording take?

Timeline depends on score complexity and ensemble size. Most recordings complete within two to four weeks from artist assignment. We build in time for refinement sessions and revisions to ensure the final product matches your vision.

Can I request specific musicians?

Yes. Browse our roster to find artists whose work resonates with you. We'll match your score to their strengths and schedule availability. If you prefer, we can also recommend musicians based on your instrumentation and style.

What if I need revisions?

Revisions are part of the process. After the initial recording, you have the opportunity to request changes. We work with the artists to refine interpretation, balance, or technical elements until you're satisfied.

Do you work with incomplete scores?

We prefer finished scores, but incomplete work can be discussed. A one-on-one session with an artist often clarifies what's missing before moving to recording. This saves time and ensures the final product reflects your intent.

What formats do you deliver?

We deliver high-quality stereo files in WAV and MP3 formats. For specific needs—surround sound, stems, or archival masters—contact us to discuss options and any additional costs.

Sessions

Questions about refining your score before recording or working solo with an artist.

What happens in a session?

A session is real-time feedback from a professional musician on your score. You'll hear your work played, discuss interpretation and clarity, and get actionable notes. It's a conversation, not a performance.

Can I book a session without recording?

Absolutely. Many composers use sessions to refine work before committing to a full recording. Others book sessions as standalone consultations. Either way, you get direct insight from someone who knows how to play your music.

How long is a session?

Sessions typically run sixty to ninety minutes, depending on score length and complexity. We schedule enough time to cover your questions thoroughly without rushing the work.

What's the difference between one-on-one and ready-session-go?

One-on-one is open feedback and exploration with an artist of your choice. Ready-Session-Go is structured editing focused on making your score recording-ready. Pick based on what your score needs.

Do I need a finished score?

No. Sessions work with drafts and incomplete work. In fact, early feedback often saves time later. Bring what you have and we'll work from there.

Rights

Questions about ownership, usage rights, and what you can do with your recording.

Who owns the recording?

You do. Once the recording is complete and paid for, it's yours to use as you see fit. We retain no ownership claim to your music or the final product.

Can I use it for commercial purposes?

Yes. Your recording can be released, sold, streamed, or licensed. There are no restrictions on commercial use once the work is delivered.

What about the musicians' rights?

The artists are hired for the session and have no ongoing claim to the recording. They're compensated for their work and that's the end of it. Your music is yours alone.

Can I share the recording publicly?

Yes. Upload it to streaming platforms, include it in your portfolio, submit it to competitions—whatever serves your work. No permissions needed from us.

Are there any restrictions?

None that we impose. The recording is yours. If your score itself is under contract with a publisher, check those terms, but the recording itself has no limitations from SoundScore.

Payment

Questions about cost, payment structure, and how long the process takes from start to finish.

How much does a recording cost?

Cost depends on instrumentation, ensemble size, and intended use. A solo piece costs less than a full orchestra. We provide a custom quote after reviewing your score. No surprises.

What about session pricing?

Sessions are priced per hour or per session block. One-on-one runs differently than Ready-Session-Go. Request a quote and we'll break down the exact cost for what you need.

When do I pay?

We require a deposit to confirm your artist and start date. The balance is due upon delivery of the final recording. Payment plans are available for larger projects.

How long from start to finish?

Most recordings take two to four weeks from artist assignment to final delivery. Sessions can be scheduled within days. Timeline adjusts based on complexity and your availability.

What if I need a rush?

Rush timelines are possible depending on artist availability. There may be an additional fee. Contact us with your deadline and we'll see what's feasible.
